EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE

Nova Academy of Cosmetology strives to draw out the future Advanced Practice Esthetician professional’s best technical and   professional skills necessary to excel in their chosen career path.

Upon completion of the course requirements, the determined graduate will be able to:

  1. Perform Advance treatments in the areas of acne treatment with extractions. Advance peels with light energy or therapy.
  2. Work with Electrical energy treatments such as Hydrafacial, Microdermabrasion and Ultrasonic as well as adding them into a service.
  3. Use Lymphatic Drainage. Perform the basic analytical skills to determine proper treatment, product selection, service and recommended regimen for client’s overall image.
  4. Utilize skin needling, Mico-current ,Galvanic and Radio Frequency. Determine when to select and combine to best serve the client.
  5. Apply learned theory, technical information, and related matter to assure sound judgments, decisions, and procedures.
  6. Respect the need to deliver a worthy service for the compensation received in an employer-employee relationship.
  7. Practice effective communication skills, visual poise and proper grooming.
  8. Project a positive attitude, a sense of personal integrity, and self-confidence.

To ensure continued professional success, the graduate will continue to learn new and current information related to skills, trends, and methods for professional development in Advanced Esthetics and related fields.

**Applicants to the 500-hour Advanced Practice Esthetics course must hold a current license for Esthiology or Cosmetology or have graduated a Minnesota approved 600 hour or 1550 hour Cosmetology program within the last 5 years.

 

THE ADVANCED PRACTICE ESTHETICS COURSE CURRICULUM

The Advanced Esthetics course content is 225 hours of instruction in applied sciences and skills in electrical energy facial treatments, light energy or therapy, lymphatic drainage , skin needling and dermaplaning, and advance peels. A total of 275 hours of planned clinical instruction in the applied sciences and experience electrical energy facial treatments, light energy or therapy, lymphatic drainage , skin needling and dermaplaning, and advance peels are required. Upon completion of training, you will have completed the number of hours required by the state of Minnesota in coordinated theory and practical experience in the applied sciences of Advanced Practice Esthetics to be eligible to take the Minnesota State Licensing Exam to become an Advanced Practice Esthetician.

A full-time Advance Practice Esthetics student must complete this course in 17 weeks. The course is comprised of 500 hours of instruction. Students are taught instruction techniques and methods through the Milady text books, hands on demonstration, and guest speakers. Experienced and licensed instructors teach all classes. Students are evaluated on subjects through written theory exams, assignments and practical exams completed either on an assigned mannequin or live model.
